My Vancouver social calendar is filling up fast, which I am very thankful for. It will be great visit friends and eat sushi and drink good wine and generally thaw out form both school responsibilities and the cold. On that note, here is invite to Toque, a lovely Christmas Fair that Miss K is a part of. I went last year and really enjoyed it. I think you will too!

Sofia Starbucks

Coincidentally the first Starbucks opened in Sofia yesterday, the same day I did my presentation on brands and commodity fetishism. I have mixed feelings about this venture. On one hand, it is probably good to have one Starbucks for those in search of the familiar when in Sofia, but at the same time this is why people travel, to try something new. Bulgarian coffee houses are loud, smoky, usually the patrons all know each other as they are all from the local neighborhood. And the coffee is pretty much the same, a black short espresso. I remember when I was in Sofia with my friend Stu and she ordered a coffee with whipping cream, at my neighborhood coffee place. It didn't resemble a Starbucks order but it was a little more particular than your usual black short espresso. The lady behind the counter turned around and looked at Stu very puzzled and said: What’s the point? For those of you who read Bulgarian, here is the article:

Cheese inspired

I have always wanted to do a cheese tasting inspired trip. Sample chèvre, camembert and livarot throughout France, goat feta in Bulgaria, stilton in England and manchego in Spain. I have also dreamt of an olive oil inspired trip but I will leave this for another entry. Anyways, tonight I found this article, which made me realize that there are other cheese foodies out there.

Saturday Night

Last night I took myself out on a date. Dinner and a movie. Little French inspired bistro, great full bodied Sicilian wine, medium rear steak, chocolate orange torte, finished off with a rich Australian port. I miss those indulgences now that I am a student but I guess one needs it once in a while.

Even More Snow

I better warn you, my dear reader, whoever you are, that I will be blogging about the weather while I am here. It is a big part of living in Saskatchewan. Today, we got the first big fall and apperantly one has to make a wish when the first big one comes. So I did. I also got a big down jacket, with a huge fur trimmed hood. It is vintage bomber style, just perfect. And so far it had been great. I will post photos soon. But for now, a photo of my favourite widget.

Post Dolly

Well, she was incredible! I am still savoring the experience, the sparkles on her dress, cute Tennessee twang, all the familiar songs of course and just being near Dolly! We were able to sit really close to the stage, Miss D was about 10 meters away. Unfortunately we could not take photos, but I can assure it is an amazing experience. And if you have a chance go see her!

Wintery Widgets

I am really liking the animations of my weather widget. It usually shows rain, or sun or nothing at all but today it has been very playful. What do you think this means? Bouncy snow?

The other BB

I am sitting in my kitchen, it is cold outside, drinking lemon ginger tea, talking on the phone with friends and wishing I was there and also wishing I had blue fir and poufy hair like the other miss BB. Oh, and I also wish I could start my readings finally.

It is getting cold here...

Well, later in the week anyways, it is supposed to dip down to minus 13. Now, I am like a true Saskatoonian, listening intently to the weather report.
