Saskatoon bound

I just purchased my ticket to Saskatoon for later this summer! Miss K will be coming with me to ease the move and help me scout some finds for my new place. We are also looking forward to driving to the prairies and enjoying the vast skies outside of Saskatoon on a mini road trip. I am excited, scared, anxious and happy!
But before I head off to the Paris of the Prairies, I am doing a little Euro vacation. I am going to Sofia, where miss K will also join me (I know this is in amazing friend) where we will celebrate her birthday. We are also planning a little excursion to Istanbul and maybe the Black Sea. I am looking forward to relaxing there, visiting with friends and family before buckling down to academic work in the year ahead. Life is good.

A Bloody Mary, a Box of Cracker Jacks and a Vogue

Dear diary,

Funny day today. Feeling overwhelmed with the upcoming changes, mainly of the too many shoes I have to part with. Really having to dig deep down in my subconscious to part with them and really start a new life. So tonight after a hard day at work, which I will also miss, and a round of really bad passport photos I headed to have one of the best Bloody Mary’s in town. And after a couple of fresh squeezed tomato cocktails with a side of fresh crab I headed home clutching the new Vogue and a box of Cracker Jacks. I wonder what the surprise is?

The Cheaper Show NO.8

The Cheaper Show returns once again. I hope you can make it to this great event!

On June 21st, 2008, the eighth installment of The Cheaper Show series will take place in the Gastown district of Vancouver, BC.

The concept of The Cheaper Show is very simple: 150 multi-disciplined international artists presenting 300 pieces of art, each priced at $200 for one night only. Far from being an 'art sale,' each exhibiting artist consciously makes a sacrifice by selling their work for less than its potential value. This creates united support for the event, the arts community, and an opportunity for this show to take place in an environment that is accessible to everyone. In turn, many walk away with sales, exposure, commissions and gallery representation, as well as having an opportunity to connect with peers on an even playing field.

Visitors are drawn to the show, discovering a rare display of exceptionally diverse talent where someone from almost any financial background may own a piece of art. These people include the curious, the first time buyer, and the well-seasoned collector.

The Cheaper Show is a salon style exhibition that focuses on quality and diversity rather than category. Works of art, regardless of medium, are displayed so as to activate one another; oil paintings and illustrations hang next to contemporary photographs with content that ranges from the urban to the academic.

Tricksters

Tonight we visited and old stomping ground, it was both familiar and strange to be back. And it somehow felt light. This is a visual reminder for miss K. We have come a long way from wearing soggy bunny and spider suits and posing next to dams. Sorry for the cryptic message, I guess this could have been an email.Extra points if anyone can guess which event I am refering to.

The Umbrellas of Vancouver

It is June and the sky is gray, the streets reflect the passing cars, tiny drops of rain sneak up on my face. I am wearing my sherbet yellow raincoat, clutching a lilac umbrella and the sounds of "The Umbrellas of Cherbourg" form in my head. It always seems to help escape the gray doldrums of the rain.

New Glasses

I am very excited, I got new glasses today. Miss K and I marched into a store on Robson Street today, there was a sale on designer's frames. I picked the very first ones I tried, and even when I tried more styles I still went back to the green black Pradas. I think they say "grad student" quite subtly. Very exciting.
